Digital Smile Design: Creating Beautiful Smiles with Confidence and Accuracy

smile design digital dental lab

At GoDigital-Dental, we know that a great smile can make all the difference to a patient’s confidence. That’s why we offer a Digital Smile Design service, an advanced technology that allows both the dentist and patient to see the results before treatment even begins. With the advancement of digital dental technology we will soon have the softwares to create moving images of the patient actually wearing the proposed design.

What is a Digital Smile Design?

A Digital Smile Design is a design tool we use for all situations but is specifically useful for patient acceptance for further treatment, especially in cosmetic cases. Whether that is for final ceramic restorations or a direct composite build up workflow. Either way we can assist you in the preliminary design phase.

Flexible solutions for every Smile

Why choose GoDigital-Dental for Digital Smile Designs?

Digital Smile Design at GoDigital-Dental is more than just a way to create beautiful smiles. It’s a process that allows for precise planning, clearer communication, and better outcomes. With digital impressions, virtual design, and patient involvement, we can offer your patients the smile they’ve always wanted while making the process easier and more predictable for you. If you want to deliver great results with confidence, Digital Smile Design is the way forward.

Predictability

With digital smile design technology, patients can visually preview the potential results they could achieve before starting treatment, making it easier to plan effectively and avoid any unexpected surprises along the way.

Accurate Preparation

With a Digital Smile Design, we can assess the preparation needed for each case. This helps us make sure that we proceed only when we are confident the scan and occlusion will produce the right result.

Personalised Treatment

Digital Smile Design customises the smile design to each patient’s features and preferences. Whether it’s a smile makeover or restorative work, each design is unique to the individual getting treatment.

Tooth Library Selection

With a wide range of smile libraries available on the CAD software, it can also provide patients with a choice of tooth shape, preference, and style within reason and based on their individual dental needs.

The Beginning of a Beautiful Smile

Digital Smile Design at GoDigital-Dental is more than just a way to create beautiful smiles. It’s a process that allows for precise planning, clearer communication, and better outcomes. With digital impressions, virtual design, and patient involvement, we can offer your patients the smile they’ve always wanted while making the process easier and more predictable for you. If you want to deliver great results with confidence, Digital Smile Design is the way forward.

Step 1:

Digital Impression and Information

To start the process we will need an IOS file of both upper and lower arches. The tools we will need to create the ideal smile case for your patient are briefly outlined below (further information can be provided on request and we can go through the best way to achieve the perfect photos)

Full face image with:

  • Smiling, natural and full smile
  • At rest
  • With retractors

Videos:

  • A close up video of the patient going through phonetic movements
  • Intraoral functional movements

For more information please call the Lab and speak to one of our Technicians to guide you through the preliminary stages.

Step 2:

Smile Design CAD Software

Image

After the Intraoral digital scan is uploaded to our smile design CAD software, we create a virtual smile based on the patient’s facial features, needs, and preferences.

Photos and videos of the patient will be imported into the CAD software and aligned with the Intraoral scan. The CAD team will select tooth libraries most suited to the patients facial features and use any pre-op photos that the patient wishes us to consider as part of their new smile design.

Step 3:

Patient Preview

The patient then views the virtual smile, and gives the dental team feedback. From this, any possible desired alterations can be made to make sure that they are fully satisfied with the design before proceeding to the next stage.

For additive cases we would recommend a trial smile stent where the patient can try the new smile and check phonetics.

Step 4:

Treatment Begins

Once the smile trial is approved, we move forward with the treatment, following the digital plan to create the patient’s perfect smile.

If the final treatment is ceramics we can provide you with a prep guide to help you create the ideal prep for a predictable result.

Alternatively if the case is going to be finalised as a direct composite case we can provide you with an Exaclear stent to your preferred specifications.

Digital Smile Design FAQs

Can patients see their new smile before treatment?

Absolutely! One of the best things about a Digital Smile Design is that patients can see a preview of their new smile before any work is done. The dentist creates a digital version of the final result using special software. This gives patients a clear idea of what to expect.

A trial smile is also available for additive cases so that the patient can try in their new smile before they commit to a final solution ( this is only available for additive cases)

If they don’t like something, adjustments can be made before treatment starts. This helps avoid surprises and ensures that the patient is happy with their new smile. It also makes the whole process smoother and more predictable.

A Digital Smile Design uses advanced dental technology to plan and create a new smile. This includes digital impressions, 3D scans, and the latest CAD software.

Because everything is done digitally, the process is more accurate and efficient than traditional methods.

Digital Smile Design is more accurate and predictable than traditional smile planning. Patients can see a digital preview of their new smile before treatment starts, which means there are no surprises. It also allows for changes before any work is done, making sure the final result is exactly what the patient wants.

Dentists can plan treatments more efficiently, meaning fewer appointments, less time in the chair, and a smoother experience for the patient.

Yes! A Digital Smile Design can be used for many different dental treatments. It is great for cosmetic treatments like veneers, crowns, and bridges, as well as full smile makeovers. Since it provides a detailed plan, it ensures that the final result looks natural and well-balanced.

It can also be used for restorative treatments, such as fixing worn-down teeth or improving a patient’s occlusion/OVD. Whether a patient needs small improvements or a complete transformation, a Digital Smile Design can make sure the results are well-planned and long-lasting.

If a patient is not happy with their first digital smile design, changes can easily be made before treatment begins. Since everything is done digitally, adjustments to the shape, size, or position of the teeth can be made and we encourage a virtual meeting with our clinicians  to iron out any adjustments, this will move things along a little more smoothly if we can sit and design together.

This ensures that the patient is fully satisfied before any actual dental work starts. Unlike traditional methods, where changes can be difficult or expensive, a Digital Smile Design allows patients to customise their smile during the planning stage, making sure they get the best possible result.

A Digital Smile Design helps dentists plan treatments more accurately. Because everything is mapped out digitally, the dentist can analyse the patient’s teeth, facial features, and occlusion in great detail. This allows for better decision-making and fewer mistakes.

With a well-structured digital plan, the treatment process is smoother, and the final result is more predictable. Patients also benefit from knowing exactly what to expect before treatment begins, reducing any uncertainty or stress.

Yes! Digital Smile Design is especially helpful for complex dental cases. It provides a clear and detailed plan, making it easier to handle complicated treatments like full smile makeovers, implant cases including All on X, or rehabilitation cases.

By creating a digital version of the final result before treatment starts, dentists can spot potential problems early. This makes the process more efficient and ensures the best possible outcome, even for challenging cases.A digital plan is an amazing tool to have at your disposal because nothing in the oral cavity has to be changed, ground or adjusted until you and the patient are ready to move forward. We can suggest OVD changes or prep design suggestions before the patient has even had a chance to come into the surgery for the review. We will support you in any way that we can to provide predictable and accurate results.

Digital Smile Design is not just for making smiles look better; it also helps with functional treatments. It can be used to improve a patient’s bite, restore worn-down teeth, and fix alignment issues.

Because it focuses on both appearance and function, a Digital Smile Design ensures that restorations not only look great but also feel comfortable and work well in everyday life. This makes it a great choice for both cosmetic and restorative dental treatments.

A Digital Smile Design facilitates the case to move smoother than a traditional wax up method. With traditional methods, adjustments often need to be made during treatment or stone models going backwards and forwards to the practice until both dentist and patient are satisfied which can slow things down tremendously. But with a Digital Smile Design, the plan is already precise, reducing the need for changes later.

Since the digital design process is more efficient, patients often need fewer appointments. It also makes the entire experience more comfortable and stress-free.
